TL;DR: We're a small garment factory in Yiwu, China. We built an English website with AI at the end of April, spent zero dollars on advertising, and this morning we received a WhatsApp inquiry from a wholesale buyer in Togo, West Africa — looking for women's dresses. This is on top of previous inquiries from Latvia, Russia, Germany, the US, Japan, and Chile. Here's exactly how we did it, and the tool we built to scale it.
Today's New Customer: Togo, West Africa
This morning, I opened WhatsApp and found a new message from a number starting with +228 — Togo, a country in West Africa.
The sender is a wholesale buyer looking for women's dresses. They attached photos and listed seven clear questions:
- Catalogue / product photos
- Wholesale price
- Available colours
- Sizes
- Minimum order quantity
- Guangzhou shop / factory address
- Shipping options to Togo
A very professional, standard trade inquiry — definitely a serious buyer.
Here's the key point: we spent zero dollars on advertising. This customer found our website through Google search, then added us on WhatsApp.
And this isn't the first one — we've had inquiries from Latvia, Russia, Germany, the United States, Japan, Chile, and more. All organic, all free.
What Did We Actually Do?
It's surprisingly simple — just three things:
1. Built an English Website with AI
At the end of April, when I was just starting to learn AI coding, I built an English website for our factory as a side project. I didn't expect much — it was basically a learning exercise.
2. Wrote Blog Articles with AI
Whenever I had time, I'd use AI to write an English blog post — stories about our factory, AI tools we've built, industry case studies. We now have about 10 articles.
3. Did Zero Promotion
No Google Ads, no Facebook ads, no paid B2B platforms, nothing. The website just sat there, existing.
And customers started coming.
Why Does This Work?
I've thought about this a lot, and it boils down to a simple truth:
When overseas customers want to find Chinese factories, Google is the first place they look.
Most Chinese factories either don't have an English website, or their site is terrible, or it has almost no content.
If you just have a decent English website with dozens of articles, you're already ahead of 90% of your competitors.
SEO (search engine optimization) is fundamentally a numbers game:
- More articles → more keywords you rank for
- More keywords → higher chance of being found
- Higher chance of being found → more customer inquiries
Why didn't everyone do this before? Because it was expensive. Hiring an English-speaking content writer costs thousands of RMB per month. Small factories couldn't afford it.
With AI, the cost drops to nearly zero. An English blog post takes AI a few minutes and costs pennies.
The Tool We Built: Factory Growth Workbench
Since this approach works, I thought: why not build a tool to make it even more efficient?
Over a few days, I integrated all the scattered features I'd been using into a single piece of software called 「Factory Growth Workbench」.
🛠️ Factory Growth Workbench · Key Features
- AI Article Generator — Enter a keyword, get a high-quality Chinese/English blog article with SEO optimization
- Website Content Manager — Publish articles directly to your website with one click, no technical skills needed
- One-Click Multi-Platform Publishing — Publish to Xiaohongshu, WeChat Official Account, Zhihu, Toutiao, LinkedIn, Twitter, and more — content is auto-copied, you just select images and hit send
- Case Study / Product Page Generator — Quickly generate case study articles and product pages when building client websites
- Multi-Language Support — Translate articles into English, Russian, Japanese, Spanish, covering more overseas markets
- SEO Optimization — Auto-generate sitemaps, keyword placement, internal linking
The idea is simple: turn "content marketing" from something that requires a professional team into something a factory owner can do by themselves.
Before, to get overseas customers through content, you needed a web agency, an operations manager, a copywriter, and a designer — costing tens of thousands of yuan with no guaranteed results.
With this tool, one person can do it all:
- Build a website (the tool generates it)
- Write 3-5 AI articles per week (5 minutes each)
- Publish to all platforms with one click
- Wait for customers to find you
Does It Actually Work? Our Data
Here's what Google Analytics shows for our own website, over the last 30 days:
49 users doesn't sound like much, but consider these points:
- All highly targeted — People searching for "Yiwu garment factory" or "gift bag manufacturer" are potential customers by definition
- Wide geographic spread — China, US, Germany, Japan, Singapore, Canada, Chile… people are finding us from all over
- Fast growth — US users are up 8x month-over-month, which means our content is starting to rank
- Real inquiries — Latvia, Russia, Togo — all real WhatsApp inquiries from real buyers
And remember — we've only written about 10 articles. If we get to 50, or 100? Traffic and inquiries will multiply several times over.
Who Is This For?
I think this approach is perfect for:
- Small factory owners — who want to do export but can't afford a marketing team
- Foreign trade salespeople — who want to build their own traffic instead of relying on platforms
- Cross-border e-commerce sellers — who want to build a brand site and private traffic
- Marketing agencies — who can use this tool to dramatically increase efficiency and serve more clients
The core logic: use AI to drive down content production costs, win with volume, and convert organic traffic into customers.
What's Next
We'll keep running this experiment on our own factory first:
- Grow blog articles from 10 → 50 → 100, keep stacking content
- Add multi-language versions (Russian, Japanese, Spanish) to cover more markets
- Keep improving the tool, adding more automation features
Once the results are more solid, we might open up the tool to other factories — since everyone succeeding is better for everyone.
Final Thoughts
I'm just a factory owner who started learning AI coding from zero four months ago. If I can do this, so can you.
AI isn't some fancy, unattainable thing. It's just a tool — like steam engines, electricity, and the internet before it. It makes things that used to be expensive suddenly very cheap.
Getting overseas customers used to cost tens or hundreds of thousands. Now it might cost a few thousand, plus a little bit of your time.
The barrier isn't technical anymore. It's whether you're willing to try.
